"Roti is for real, bringing an understated sensuality to what she sings, and with grace and a smile, at that. Her sultry, laid-back delivery masks an uncanny knowledge of the songs she sings, and did we mention her intonation and diction are to die for? This is one to take to the bank." - TIMEOUT CHICAGO, CRITIC'S CHOICE Tickets: $20 in advance / $25 at the door |

Starring: Beckie Menzie with special guest Tom Michael Spend an evening with Chicago’s acclaimed musical performer Beckie Menzie as she showcases her non-standard way of twisting some of your favorite popular songs. Beckie will also feature some contemporary songs that she thinks should be standards, as well as a couple of her own originals. The Chicago Tribune has called Beckie “indispensable to Chicago cabaret,” and her arrangements have been hailed by critics for their remarkable re-imaginings of the works of the American Popular song. As one of cabarets’ most in demand entertainers, Beckie made her Carnegie Hall debut in Michael Feinstein’s “Now & Then” Series. She has also appeared at the New York’s legendary Lincoln Center, Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre and Park West, as well as at concert halls and art series across the country. Featuring: Tina Pappademos, Carmen “La Tragedie de Carmen,” awarded the 1984 special Tony Award for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Theatre, is English stage director Peter Brook’s highly distilled, 80-minute twist of Prosper Mérimée’s 1845 story and George Bizet’s 1875 opera. Brook and his collaborators (composer-conductor Marius Constant and playwright Jean-Claude Carrière) reduced Carmen to what they perceived as its basic elements and reconstituted the opera, so that the story seems at once familiar and alien: “We are doing a new investigation of [Carmen] - hence the new title - and what we have done is to separate its central core from the rest of the material, like boning a fish. Everything is trimmed away to focus on the intense interaction, the tragedy of four people.” It is basically the big hits of the opera without the chorus or big ensembles.
